Remarks:
Shamima Begun is a Muslim, who, while still a schoolgirl in London, travelled to Syria in 2015 to join Islamic State and subsequently married one of its fighters. She was stripped of her British citizenship in 2019, as a security risk, thereby preventing her return to the UK, and has been living in refugee camps in the Middle East ever since. In November 2022, an appeal against loss of citizenship was heard by the Special Immigration Appeals Commission, prompting this survey.
