Hi Clive. Thanks for this page, it’s a treat! Could the increase in proportion of C of Es attending be a result of the decline in the number identifying as C of E, presuming that that decline is largely among nominal rather than attenders?

At first, you note “…increased identification with non-Christian faiths over recent decades (3% in 1983, 9% in 2016), broad stability in levels of Catholic affiliation (10% in 1983, 6% in 2016)”, but your Table 1 puts those figures as a growth from 2% to 6%, and a decrease from 10% to 9%, respectively (and the latter would fit the description of “broad stability” better than a decrease from 10% to 6%).
Why are these figures different? Thanks.

Thanks for your thoughts. It’s hard to ascertain why attendance has increased between two individual surveys. This time around, it occurred for both CofE and Other Christians. There have other year-on-year fluctuations – up or down – in the data series, for the different groups. It’s probably best to focus on the broader over-time changes and recurrent patterns, than yearly variation.
